Building Beautiful Things
Moravian Designs works to build beautiful things in our hometown of McCall, Idaho.
Our signature item is the Moravian Workbench, which boasts a portable, compact, and versatile design. It’s classic and beautiful but can also be easily disassembled and moved, making it extremely useful. Watch our short video (right) to see why this bench is the perfect addition to your mountain home or lake cabin.
The Moravian Workbench originated in Old Salem, N. C., a Moravian settlement founded in 1766. We were first introduced to the bench through the passion of Will Myers, a furniture maker who taught students how to build them at The Woodwright’s School. He also sells an instructional video with plans to help would-be woodworkers make their own.
Utilizing Will’s resources, we started our workbench journey in October 2024. We studied the video and did our best to emulate every section, even using only hand tools to recreate the classic design. We made mistakes—again and again and again—but thanks to some friends who are also excellent woodworkers, we overcame the initial hurdles, mastered the basics, and tried out our own moderations, like a custom inlay and a proprietary finish.
By April 2025, we’d completed our first bench. We improved our gear garage workflow and organization, making it easier than ever to handle maintenance of our family’s gear. But then we shared the result with our friends—the reaction was overwhelmingly positive, and we decided to make some benches for them, too. Soon, what started as a one-off winter project became a full-fledged business. We automated our workflow, refined our tool selection, and cut down our construction time to about a week.
Now, we’re dedicated to getting this incredible workbench in as many gear garages and homes as we can. Once you see it, you’ll understand why. Contact us today to build something beautiful.
